The regular monthly meeting of the Mount Vernon Community School District School was held on March 8, 2023.  The following topics were addressed during the meetings:

Approval Agenda:  The meeting agenda was approved as written with no changes proposed.

Superintendent Report:  Dr. Batenhorst shared some of the great things that are taking place in the district over the last month; including the MVHS Robotics team winning a state championship and qualifying for the world competition.  Dr. Batenhorst also spoke of the important work around contract negotiations that will take place after spring break, and spoke of important financial decisions that the district will need to make over the next several months.

Public Comments:  No public comments were made during the meeting.

Program Division

Student Health Program Update:  School nurses Jenna Wear and Megan Krapfl provided a yearly update on the student health programs that they offer to the students.  They shared how they have assisted students and families to meet needs in the areas of health, social-emotional well-being, and basic living needs.    

School Calendar:  The Board approved calendars for the 2023-2024 and 2024-2025 school years.  

Personnel Division:  The Board approved one contract for a coaching position, and discussed preparations for the annual superintendent evaluation that will take place in April.

Facilities Division:  Dr. Batenhorst provided an update on the progress of the construction of the new activities complex.     

Administrative Division  

State and Local Funding Summary:  School Business Official Michael Marshall provided an update on the state and local funding that supports the school district.  This information was provided as a precursor to the establishment of the 2023-2024 budget that will be provided in the April Board meeting.    

Policy Update:  The Board approved the First Reading of a series of policies that address a variety of topics, including fiscal practices and protocols for the district.

Reports:  Board members reported on the Labor Management Committee meeting, and the study of the recent staff survey completed by the staff.    

Unfinished Business:  No unfinished business was addressed in the meeting.       

Consent Agenda:  All items in the Consent Agenda were approved as presented. 

The next regularly scheduled meeting of the School Board is scheduled for Monday, April 10, 2023, at 6:00 p.m.  The meeting will begin thirty minutes early to facilitate the completion of the annual evaluation of the superintendent.
