The regular monthly meeting of the Mount Vernon Community School District School was held on October 11, 2023. The following topics were addressed during the meeting:
Approval of Agenda: The meeting agenda was approved as written with no changes proposed.
Public Comments: No public comments were made during the meeting.
Superintendent Report: Dr. Batenhorst spoke about the pride of the community that was evident with the grand opening of the Martha Parsons and Family Activities Complex. He thanked everyone who was involved in making this project a reality. Dr. Batenhorst also highlighted the great accomplishments on standardized testing by its students, bucking trends being seen nationwide and statewide.
Program Division
School Highlight: MVHS Principal Bob Haugse provided an overview of the programming and activities at Mount Vernon Middle School, praising his staff for the great accomplishments of the students in academics, arts, and athletics.
Superintendent Search: The leaders of the Ray and Associates search firms worked on scheduling details and logistics for the superintendent search.
Personnel Division
Approval of Personnel Contracts for New Hires: The Board approved the hiring of individuals for support staff and coaching positions for the 2023-2024 school year.
Facilities Division
Activities Complex Update: Dr. Batenhorst provided an update on how the punch list issues will be addressed for the activities complex, and shared that the major landscaping work will begin next week.
Administrative Division
Policy Update: The Board approved the First Reading of the 500 Series of policies that are up for review this year. The 500 Series relates to students.
Reports: No reports were offered during this portion of the meeting.
Unfinished Business: No unfinished business was discussed in the meeting.
Consent Agenda: All items in the Consent Agenda were approved as presented.
Closed Session: The Board met in Closed Session to discuss the proposed salary range for the new superintendent. The Board voted to set the salary range for the new superintendent at $190,000-$200,000.
