A special meeting of the Mount Vernon Community School District School Board was held on August 29, 2022. The following topics were addressed during the meetings:
Approval: The meeting agenda was approved as written with no changes proposed.
Proposed Activities Complex: The School Board received the cost estimate and project specifications from Hall and Hall Engineering for the proposed Mustang Activities Complex. The project will now go out to bid on September 7, 2022, with bids due on October 7, 2022. The Board will then review the bid to see if it is viable.
Goal Setting for the Schools, Superintendent, and School Board: Dr. Batenhorst took the Board and the building principals through a goal setting exercise designed to align the goals of the Board, the Superintendent, and the schools with one another.
Discussion of Standards Based Grading Practices: Board members were given the opportunity to ask questions and share thoughts regarding the District’s use of standards based practices, most specially Evidence Based Reporting. The District’s leadership team will now study those questions and concerns to determine how best to gather feedback from current and former students on how Evidence Based Reporting is working or did work for them.
Personnel Division: The Board approved the hiring of a special education teacher and a series of support staff members for the 2022-2023 school year.
Next Meeting: The next regular meeting of the School Board will take place on Monday, September 12, 2022. Part of this meeting will be a public hearing regarding the activities complex project. The meeting will start at 6:30 p.m.
