The regular monthly meeting of the Mount Vernon Community School District School Board was held on June 13, 2022. The following topics were addressed during the meetings:
Approval: The meeting agenda was approved as written with no changes proposed.
Superintendent Report: Dr. Batenhorst applauded all students and staff members for a positive 2021-2022 school year, and shared a few details regarding the program that would allow paraprofessionals and associates to pursue teaching degrees through a grant program.
Public Comments: Several patrons offered public comments regarding the use of certain materials for the teaching of the guidance curriculum at Washington Elementary.
Program Division
Appeal of Washington Elementary Committee Decision Regarding the Use of Materials in the Guidance Curriculum: After discussion of the appeal, the Board voted 6-1 to deny the appeal from a parent, of a decision made by a committee at Washington Elementary regarding materials currently used in its guidance curriculum.
Personnel Division: The Board approved the hiring of a series of certified, support, and coaching staff members and coaches for the 2022-2023 school year.
Facilities Division: Dr. Batenhorst provided the Board with an update on the planning process for the proposed Mustang Activities Complex. He also shared that a more comprehensive update will be provided by the lead engineer during the July 11th meeting. Patrons will also have the opportunity to meet with the engineer team and district administrators prior to the regular Board meeting on July 11th.
Administrative Division: No business was addressed in the Administrative Division.
Reports: No reports were offered in the meeting.
Unfinished Business: No unfinished business was addressed during the meeting.
Consent Agenda: All items in the Consent Agenda were approved as presented.
Next Meeting: The next regular meeting of the School Board will take place on Monday, July 11, 2022. The meeting will start at 6:30 p.m.
