Mount Vernon Community:

I am pleased to announce that Michael Marshall will assume the reins of the role of School Business Official in the Mount Vernon Community School District, effective May 2, 2022. Mr. Marshall comes to us from the Cedar Rapids Community School District, where he served as an Accounting Specialist and a Payroll Training and Project Assistant during his time there. Mr. Marshall graduated with honors from Mount Mercy University, with a double major in Actuarial Science and Finance. Mr. Marshall is from a family of educators, and is a product of the Center Point-Urbana School District and community. Mr. Marshall has engaged in extensive training to prepare to serve as a School Business Official, and comes highly regarded by people in the Cedar Rapids Community School, as well as those who have mentored him.

Mr. Marshall impressed the interview community with his strong business knowledge and acumen, and the in-depth training he has engaged in to be a School Business Official. Ultimately, Mr. Marshall rose to the top of a very strong pool of candidates, and we are excited that he is joining our district.

It is bittersweet to say goodbye to Matt Burke, who served in exemplary fashion as our School Business Official for the past two decades. We owe a great debt of gratitude to Mr. Burke for his service to the district and community, and for keeping the district on track financially through challenging times. We wish Mr. Burke nothing but the best in his retirement, and we are grateful for all he has done for Mount Vernon.

We will provide Mr. Marshall a few days off in May to get married, and we wish him and his new wife nothing but the best as they begin their journey together. Mr. Burke will be available to us for consultation as needed during the month of May, and we look forward to a smooth transition with our School Business Official position.

Thank you Matt, and welcome Michael!

Sincerely,

Greg Batenhorst, Ed.D.
Superintendent
