WHAT A NIGHT! Thursday, September 28, 2023 a dream was realized with the opening of the Martha Parsons and Family Activities Complex. A ribbon cutting ceremony was held with members of the Martha Parsons family and Mount Vernon High School students Brynn Lynner, Andrew Heck, Jackson Jaspers, Josie Niehaus, Klayten Perreault, Peyton Simpson, and Mollie Snedden doing the honors. In addition, Ron and Bev Armstrong and their granddaughter, Taylor Delancy were in attendance to take part in the festivities. The Armstrong family’s generous pledge was instrumental in completing the project and the field will bear their name. The Armstrong Family Field will host many football games and marching band competitions in years to come!
A flag raising was held as members of the Hahn Howard Post 480 of the American Legion were presented with the flag by Student Council Vice President, Sierra Snyder. The flag had been transported from the First Street Field.
The Marching Mustangs officially took the field and led the crowd in the National Anthem and the school fight song. Next up, the Mustang cheerleaders gave their first performance on the field.
Then Friday night the Mustangs played their first game on the new field where they defeated Davenport Assumption 24-7.
Thank you to the over 200 individuals and businesses who pledged over $2.7 million to the Mount Vernon Community School Districts Foundation’s capital campaign for the project. The Mount Vernon School Board, the Mount Vernon Community School District Foundation, and the District Administrative Team are grateful for all you have done to support this project.
