The regular monthly meeting of the Mount Vernon Community School District School was held on February 13, 2023. The following topics were addressed during the meetings:
Approval Agenda: The meeting agenda was approved as written with no changes proposed.
Superintendent Report: Dr. Batenhorst discussed looking forward to continuing the District’s work on recruiting and retaining quality staff members. Dr. Batenhorst spoke to the completion of a staff survey by our one hundred staff members, and how that data will be used to make recommendations moving forward.
Public Comments: No public comments were made during the meeting.
Program Division
J-Term Presentation: MVHS Principal Steve Brand and Business Teacher Kevin Murray provided a presentation on the J-Term program that was again part of the school year for the first time in three years.
School Calendar: The Board discussed drafts of calendars for the 2023-2024 and 2024-2025 school years. Feedback was gathered from staff members, and the Board asked clarifying questions regarding the calendars. The calendars will be brought forth for final approval in the March meeting.
Legislative Update: Dr. Batenhorst provided the Board with an overview of current legislation potentially impacting public schools, and answered questions from Board members regarding the current legislative session.
Personnel Division: No personnel items were addressed during the meeting.
Facilities Division: Dr. Batenhorst provided an update on the progress of the construction of the new activities complex.
Administrative Division: The Board approved several community members for inclusion on the Reconsideration of Materials Committee. These people will serve for the remainder of the 2022-2023 school year, and the 2023-2024 school year.
Reports: Board members offered reports on the Booster Club, Management Committee, and Facilities Committee meetings.
Unfinished Business: No unfinished business was addressed in the meeting.
Consent Agenda: All items in the Consent Agenda were approved as presented.
Board Calendar: The March 13th meeting will be moved to March 8th due to a conflict with spring break.
The next regularly scheduled meeting of the School Board is scheduled for Wednesday, March 8, 2023 at 6:30 p.m.
